OffferPal Media and SuperRewards and now Google, are powering scams with SMS-subscription offers that trick users into putting long term subscriptions on their mobile phones.

Tap Defense, an iphone game created by TapJoy, contained multiple version of the SMS subscription scam. The SMS offers were being run by Offerpal.

While on other platforms users are offered virtual currency in exchange for answering a quiz or some other seemingly harmless offer. But once they click through and awswer the quiz questions they’re told they need to enter their mobile phone number to get quiz results. Often there is fine print outlining the charges. But the already tiny print is completely unreadable on a mobile screen, making that disclosure meaningless even when it appears.

SMS subscription scams are among the most lucrative offers to game publishers because users get a recurring fee of $10 – $25 per month until they are able to terminate the subscription. Many users never notice them, and those that do usually have a lot of trouble getting them shut off.

The Zwinky toolbar is back on Facebook games which one of the most hated malware wrappers on the Internet. Its back on Facebook offers, through both Offerpal and SuperRewards (we saw offers from both companies on Fishworld by TallTreeGames).

Twitter has just announced that the reason for the recent password shuffling comes from torrent related websites. Someone for a long period of time was “creating torrent sites that require a login and password as well as creating forums set up for torrent site usage and then selling these purportedly well-crafted sites and forums to other people innocently looking to start a download site of their very own.”
Twitter goes on to say that “however, these sites came with a little extra — security exploits and backdoors throughout the system.”
That began the problem, with hundreds of people being asked to reset their password after their accounts were possibly compromised.

You can soon upload any file type at all to Google Docs, not just the dozen or so Office formats that the service allowed as of yesterday. Video files. Images. Audio Files. Even Zip files. As long as those files are 250 MB or smaller, you’re good. The new feature will roll out over the next several weeks, says Google.

Like other documents in Google docs, files can be kept private, made public or shared with a few users. Google Viewer can be used to view many file types, with the notable exception of video.

Regular users have 1 GB of free storage and can purchase more for $0.25/GB. Enterprise customer pay higher prices, starting at $17/year for 5 GB. There are no bandwidth charges.

Three Third Party Apps Available Now

Three partners have been working with Google to build value add features on top of the new product. The most interesting, Memeo Connect (from Memeo), lets users sync files between the desktop and Google Docs.

” God Mode ” allows you to do is change every setting and administrative option in Windows 7.

So at least you get “Godly” powers over your Windows 7 machine.

All you have to do is the following:

 1. Create a new folder on your desktop or anywhere ( right click on a blank space – new folder )
2. Then rename it to the following ” GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} ”

The folder icon will then automatically change itself to the control panel icon and there you have it!

All you have to do is double click the God Mode shortcut and you can edit every Windows 7 settings that you can imagine all through a GUI. Everything from the Action Center, Back Up plans, Desktop Gadgets and Power Options are all available here.

I guess it’s handy if your looking to change a lot of settings at once?

Apparently it works with Windows Vista as well

A new worm that promises the gift of more followers is spreading quickly on Twitter. Unfortunately, the only thing that the sites involved seem to do is use your account to spam your followers.

One of the sites involved asks for your Twitter (Twitter) username and password and appears to be associated with the Twitter account @GetFreeFollowers, which has been suspended by Twitter. Another that I came across may be far more damaging, as it appears to be spreading malware through what look to be YouTube (YouTube) videos (but actually work like Koobface). A similar scam also seems to be fairly widespread in Portuguese.

Be careful of these get more followers programs out there!

Molinker is the company is responsible for a vast number of applications which are mostly .99 many of them travel guides receiving rave reviews from users while being very poorly written.

The authenticity of those reviews surfaced this weekend, when British blogger Glyn Evans of iphoneography wrote about the fact that a large number were extremely positive, poorly written and by users who seemed only to review Molinker applications. Shortly after that news was posted, the company’s applications appeared to be pulled from the store pending investigation.

The latest holiday scam is the facebook spam going around to call this number for a $250 Best buy gift card.

DO NOT CALL

You call this number after getting the suspicious text or message and you hear this ramble about how to entertain an idiot. It registers your phone number for a pay per month service that sends you one (1) text per month with the same message you originally recieved and unless you request to be taken off the list or have it removed by your carrier.

Yes, you’ve been suckered for $9.99 per month -up front- that your carrier is not gonna waive no matter how upset you are about it cause YOU made the call. Don’t text back to it either, that’s just as bad.

Check with your cellular provider to confirm.
